Hilary Duff Hints At A ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Revival Series

There may yet be a possibility for the ‘Lizzie McGuire‘ revival. Hilary Duff was slated to return as the delightful Lizzie in a grown-up relaunch of the iconic Disney Channel comedy. Furthermore, the original cast members had made a comeback. Two complete episodes had been filmed. But later on, the whole reboot series was canceled.

Since then, more than two years have passed, and there have been no significant updates on the status of the series or its future. But Hilary Duff just hinted that the series might be far from canceled.

Lizzie McGuire Reboot Finally Happening?

The actress started shooting the reboot of her Disney Channel TV show in October 2019. However, Terri Minsky, the initial showrunner, left after two episodes had been filmed owing to creative disagreements with Disney, and the project was eventually shelved. But Hilary recently gave new optimism for the revival of the series in an interview.

During a broadcast of ‘Watch What Happens Live‘, presenter Andy Cohen asked Hilary a fan question: “If the Lizzie McGuire reboot lived up to your vision, would you move forward with the revival?” She said, “Of course,” in response to the query.

Speaking of why the series got canceled, Hilary said, “Disney+ was very new and I think they were figuring out their… and we were figuring out our…” Hilary concluded by noting that she is “optimistic” that the remake would resume production soon.

Why Was The Earlier Lizzie McGuire Reboot Canceled?

After the cast photos were shared, and two episodes were shot, why did the production for Lizzie McGuire shut down abruptly? Of course, Terry’s conflicts with Disney played a significant part, but Hilary’s opposition to the character’s growth also played a significant role. According to what Duff told Women’s Health, she demanded to the streamer that the revived version of the iconic show should include a more adult Lizzie who isn’t overly mature.

Duff told the magazine, “She had to be 30 years old doing 30-year-old things. She didn’t need to be doing bong rips and having one-night stands all the time, but it had to be authentic. I think they got spooked.”

Nevertheless, a Lizzie McGuire reboot might just be getting planned. Let’s hope fans aren’t left disappointed this time.
