Rebel Wilson recently shared that she wrote a heartfelt letter to her father and put in his coffin after his death. The revelation is a part of many secrets that the actress has revealed in her upcoming memoir, ‘Rebel Rising‘.
In an excerpt of the book that is set to release soon, the actress disclosed that she and her father didn’t always have a great relationship. Her father passed away in 2013 at the age of 62 from a heart attack.
In the letter that Rebel said she put in his coffin, the actress wrote, “To dear Dad, I’ve said a lot that you were never really part of my acting career, but on reflection, you were and are. There’s a cheekiness, a dodginess, and entrepreneurial-ness, a darkness, a creative-ness, a bravado-ness that comes from you and your side of the family.”
“I’m sure you didn’t mean to bring so much pain to Mum and us kids. You didn’t mean to lose your temper and do spiteful and hateful things,” she wrote in the letter. “I want you to know that I forgive you. I will strive to find love, I will no longer be afraid of it,” Wilson concluded.
Wilson said she found it easier to write this thing in a letter than to say it face-to-face, as she has always shared a difficult relationship with her father.
In the memoir, Rebel also spoke about the physical abuse she endured from her father, even after being a brilliant kid. “At school, I would be very good and get very good grades, and I would never talk back or be disrespectful. I never smoked or drank or did anything naughty because I would be scared. … So I always had to be a very sensible and responsible child.”
Rebel Wilson Is All Set For The Release Of Her Memoir ‘Rebel Rising’
Speaking more about it with People magazine, Rebel Wilson said, “At one part, it is easier because he’s passed away. And I wonder whether I would’ve had the courage to do it if he was still here… [so] it’s a little bit easier, I guess, in that respect that he’s not.”
“There were all these other things — the sadness that I felt when he did pass away so suddenly, and how tragic that was, and how I have regrets,” she says. “It surprised me by writing [the memoir], sometimes, the empathy I felt towards him and thinking about his life and his struggles,” Rebel continued.
The actress and comedian is currently busy with the promotions of her memoir ‘Rebel Rising‘, which deals with the delicate aspects of her life. In the book, Wilson has fearlessly talked about several sensitive issues like her sexuality, weight loss journey, and sexual assaults she faced in the industry.
The book is set for launch on April 2.
