Dakota Fanning is gearing up for a behind-the-scenes role, and is sure enough about it to let go of even her career. In an interview with PORTER, the 30-year-old ‘Ripley‘ actress said she has an immense desire to be a mother and holds it as an aspiration she would fulfill at the expense of her silver screen job.
“Being an actor is a huge part of my identity. I don’t really know who I am without it,” Fanning shared during an interview with the outlet. “But I also have a desire to set up my life and career so that I always have a choice,” Fanning continued.
“Having kids is probably more important to me than anything, even being an actor,” she added. “If somebody said I had to choose, I would choose having kids. I’m one of those people who has always felt that pull.”
Fanning said that though she is uncertain about the timing of her future family plans, she is embracing new experiences and challenges in the present. “I’m trying to push myself to keep saying yes to things that make me uncomfortable, to keep going to places for long periods of time that maybe I’m scared to do because — God willing — one day, it won’t be as easy,” she revealed.

Dakota Fanning Enters Her 30s With A Heartfelt Note From Sister Elle
Fanning marked a significant milestone as she celebrated her 30th birthday in February this year. Her sister Elle penned a heartfelt tribute in her honor, affectionately describing Dakota as someone who had eagerly anticipated reaching 30 since her teenage years.
“Anyone who knows Dakota knows she has dreamt of turning 30 since she was a teenager,” Elle wrote in her social media tribute. “February 23, 1994 the world got brighter and more beautiful. I could sit and listen to you talk for hours, in fact that is my favorite place to be…absorbing your advice, your fascinating view of the world (things you ARE and AREN’T “interested” in),” she added.
Elle further noted that she “always felt safest with you by my side. She is the epitome of what a big sister should be. She’s absolutely nuts, but will fight for her friends till the bitter end. I love you I love you I love you.”
Dakota Fanning is currently busy promoting her upcoming Netflix show, wherein she stars alongside Andrew Scott. ‘Ripley‘ is a popular conman story inspired by a book, and has been told before through a Matt Damon film. However, the show, with Andrew Scott in the lead role, brings the story forth with a fresh perspective to the screen. ‘Ripley‘ will stream on Netflix on April 4.
