    Will Smith shocked the audience when he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars in defense of his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Since then Will Smith has been banned from attending the Oscars for 10 years. However, she has now revealed that they were not husband and wife at the time.

    A year back, Will Smith stormed to the stage and slapped Chris Rock after the comedian made a tasteless joke about his wife who suffered from alopecia. The ‘Men in Black’ actor came in defense of Jada Pinkett Smith saying, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”

    Almost after a year, Jada Pinkett Smith finally opened up about the infamous Oscar slap. The actress told People magazine that she thought “it was a skit when Will approached the stage to confront Rock.”

    Adding to it Jada also said that they hadn’t “called each other husband and wife in a long, long time … so hearing those words come out, mixed with the heated moment”, caught her in a fix. She also revealed that she and Will Smith had been separated for six years by that time.

    The infamous slap changed the entire course of the Oscar’s history. After the slap, Will Smith won the Oscar for Best Actor and also delivered an emotional speech. Later the ‘Suicide Squad’ actor resigned from the Academy after receiving backlash for the slap. Then the Academy banned Will from its membership and forbade him from attending the Oscars for 10 years. 

    Jada Pinkett Smith also told People about her marriage to Will Smith, “We’re still figuring it out. We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
