“I Would Be Lying If I Say It Didn’t Bother Me”: Louis Tomlinson Opens About His Mixed Feelings About Harry Styles’ Success

When One Direction went on hiatus in 2015, its four members — Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Harry Styles — pursued solo careers of their own, leaving the world of sold-out stadiums and group performances behind. According to Louis Tomlinson, the break came as a bit of a shock.

The singer is now opening up about the transition, post-1D. While each of the former band members have achieved success with their solo efforts, it is Styles who has made the biggest impact over the past seven years. Following that Louis admitted that he was a bit jealous of Harry’s success.

The singer is now opening up about the transition, revealing he initially had mixed feelings about seeing his former bandmates rise to superstardom post-1D. “It was a bit daunting. I’d just got to a stage where I really started to feel like I found my rhythm, I was enjoying songwriting, I felt like I finally worked out where I am in that band,” Louis told The Telegraph in a new interview, published on November 9.

“And then it’s like: ‘Okay, well, now we’re going on a break.’ So there was a bit of petulance from my end, I was frustrated.” “I’d be lying if I said it didn’t bother me at first. Only ’cos I didn’t know where to place myself, and really my only point of reference was other members of the band,” Louis said. “But it’s not surprising to me that Harry’s the most commercially successful because he really fits the mold of a modern star. He’s not just doing music, he’s got film as well, and the (stadium) tour he’s done is unbelievable.”

While Louis may have felt competitive with Harry before, it’s all love now. “It took me a while to work out where I stand,” said Louis. “But I look on Harry like a brother, man. I have a lot of pride for what he’s doing.” Louis is currently promoting his new album, ‘Faith in the Future‘, expected out November 11. According to Louis, while the 1D members aren’t besties who hang out all the time, they do still support one another.

“I’m sure the lads will text me when the album comes out, we check in on each other, we’re good like that,” he explained. “I bumped into Niall [Horan] at Glastonbury, and even though we hadn’t spoken all year, it was like absolutely no time had passed.”

They may not be spending hours together on a tour bus anymore, but Louis says they are always going to have a connection. “Because we’ve lived through such experiences together in One Direction, this bond that we have is for life.”
