“I Would Have Broken Up With Him Immediately”: Kristen Stewart Has A Sharp Take On Bella Swan’s Relationship With Edward Cullen In ‘Twilight’

Though it has been decades since ‘Twilight‘ was first released, actors Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are still best known for their roles in the franchise. One of the most popular film franchises to date, the mass narrative around the film has also largely evolved over time.

The movie actors themselves have been critical of the film, deeming it as an overrated piece of entertainment. Kristen Stewart, who played the iconic character Bella Swan in five films of the franchise, recently opened up about her perspective on the character’s relationship with the vampire Edward Cullen played by Robert Pattinson.

Bella Swan and Edward Cullen still remain one of the fan-favorite couples. The actors that portrayed these iconic characters also had some off-screen chemistry as they dated for a while. Though the couple parted ways shortly after, they are still good friends and have gone their own separate romantic ways.

However, Kristen Stewart has now opened up about her on-screen relationship with Robert Pattinson, deeming it something she would have immediately backed off from. During an episode of the ‘Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast hosted by Amanda Hirsch, Stewart was asked about her feelings towards her most iconic character Bella Swan.

Let’s talk about Bella for a second,” Hirsch said. “Do we not like her in retrospect?”

Do we not like her?,” Stewart responded, surprised. “Whoa. Hey, you better be careful. I don’t know if you can tell who you’re talking to right now.”

The conversation then dove into Bella’s relationship with Edward, with Hirsch suggesting that Bella was overly eager to please Edward and make sacrifices for him in the film. While Stewart did not disagree with these points, she also defended Bella’ character.

Yeah, but, he was trying to sort of control whether or not she made choices for herself,” Stewart said, adding, “I would have broken up with him immediately.”

Kristen Stewart also spoke up against Edward’s reluctance to allow Bella to make her own choices, particularly regarding her desire to become a vampire. “I mean if I was like, ‘Hey, I want to try that,’ and he was like, ‘No, this is just for me,’ I would be like, ‘Well, this is also just for me. My whole life. Without you,’” she said.

The ‘Twilight’ saga is based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novels and has long been a subject of debate. The discussions around the nature of Bella and Edward’s relationship have also been rampant. Some critics have labeled it as an example of an abusive dynamic and has a variety of interpretations among fans.

Lionsgate studio, which was behind the ‘Twilight‘ films, is gearing up to adapt the love story into a television show. Meanwhile, Stewart continues to explore complex relationship dynamics in her latest project, the romantic thriller ‘Love Lies Bleeding’.
