While Armie Hammer may not be the only star to have fallen victim to the cancel culture, he is definitely the only one to be grateful that it happened. Three years after facing allegations of sexual abuse, assault, and even cannibalism, the actor has revealed that despite the difficult journey, he is grateful for the experiences that followed.
Hammer was speaking on Tyler Ramsey’s Painful Lessons podcast when he opened up about how his life unfolded after the scandal. Describing it as a transformative period, the actor also revealed the negative impact it had on his career in Hollywood. Here’s what he said.

Armie Hammer Recounts His Constant Dissatisfaction With Life Despite His Acting Success
While Armie Hammer has mostly kept a low profile regarding his scandals including allegations of sexual assault and cannibalism, they have been extensively discussed, including in the 2022 documentary ‘House of Hammer‘. Though it evidently impacted his life quite a lot, the actor has seemingly managed to find peace in the fact that he survived the brawl.
“Whatever it was that people said, whatever it was that happened, I’m now at a place in my life where I’m grateful for every single bit of it,” Hammer said during the interview. The ‘Call Me By Your Name‘ actor opened up about the dissatisfaction he held in life.
Hammer asserted that despite the external validation he was constantly granted because of his acting career, he struggled with self-esteem and self-love. “I never knew how to give myself love. I never knew how to give myself self-validation but I had this job where I was able to get it from so many people that I never had to learn how to give it to myself,” Hammer said.

The controversy against Armie Hammer began in early 2021 when several women accused him of sexual misconduct. They also shared messages purportedly sent by him involving BDSM and cannibalistic fantasies. Hammer vehemently denied the allegations, labeling them “bullsh–.” On the podcast, Hammer said he’s in disbelief over the most sensational accusation — cannibalism.
“People called me a cannibal,” he recalled. “Like I ate people! What?! You know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people!” he said.
Hammer also compared the sexual assault allegations to a “neutron bomb” that detonated in his life, and led him to seek treatment. He said the intense public backlash pushed him to the brink.
“I was standing at the shore and I swam out really far and just laying there… a half-assed suicide attempt,” he revealed, but thoughts of his children stopped him. He perhaps also saw his career fallout coming. He was dropped by his agency and ousted from projects like the 2022 rom-com ‘Shotgun Wedding‘ and the ‘Godfather‘ series ‘The Offer‘.
Despite his Hollywood career being “nowhere now,” Hammer is determined to rebuild. He said he’s venturing into screenplay writing, aiming to create in his “own sandbox“.
