The acclaimed actor recently made an appearance on Dax Sheoherd’s podcast the ‘Armchair Expert‘. Among other things, the ‘Hangover’ star talked about the profound impact fatherhood has had on his journey of sobriety and self-discovery. He opened up that being a dad to 6-year-old Lea played a pivotal role in steering his life away from potential wreckage.
Cooper admitted, “Honestly, I’m not sure I’d be alive if I wasn’t a dad—I don’t know.” Giving a pretty complex yet accurate metaphor the ‘American Sniper’ star said, “I just needed someone to say, ‘We’re gonna drop this massive anchor,’ and I’m like, ‘Why? We’re speeding.”
He further added, “We just got an upgrade on the boat and I know where the wind is coming in.’ And they’re like, ‘No, there’s a tsunami coming and you need an anchor and we’re gonna drop it. This is going to dictate everything you do from now on.”

Bradley’s Commitment To Daughter Lea’s Growth
Reflecting on the early days of parenthood, Cooper humorously recounted the first few months of uncertainty. He admitted, “The first eight months, I was like, ‘I don’t even know if I really love the kid, it’s dope. It’s cool.'” However, over time, he realized how important that kid was going to be to him.
As Bradley shared insights into his role as a father, he also opened up about the deep sense of responsibility he feels in shaping Lea’s foundation. The ‘Joker’ actor expressed his thoughtful approach, saying, “I want her to have as much foundation as she can. I think about how my relationship with my daughter impacts her growth and the journey she’s gonna be on.”
The actor who’s been sober for 20 years now confessed, “The least amount of damage I can do to my daughter—please let me work on myself.”
