Sometimes the internet takes things way too far. And that is what happened to Millie Bobby Brown, which led to her deactivating her Twitter account back in 2018. A single tweet had led to a chain of other tweets, which went on to become homophobic slurs and racist comments.
The tweets became disturbing after a while. Netizens went on to bully ‘Stranger Things‘ actress with fake stories and hashtags. It is assumed that the users thought it to be ironic to use the sweet and innocent image of the celebrity against these absurd and poorly build anti-gay slurs and statements. Twitter Took The Joke Way Too Far With Millie Bobby Brown
The actress was then a 14-year-old and was turned into an ‘anti-gay meme’, which went on to portray her as a violent homophobe. Thousands of users had commented and retweeted fake homophobic and racist slurs against her. “I saw Millie Bobby Brown in the airport and asked for a pic and she said ‘only if you remove the hijab’ and I said ‘it’s my faith’ and she aggressively pulled it off my head and stamped it on it,” read the original tweet that had started off as a bizarre trend.
From there it went on and on until it turned into fake homophobic stories. One story went on to tell how Millie Bobby Brown had refused to take photos with a user as the user was homosexual. These tweets were followed by #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown. Meanwhile, many fans reported to various news sources that they had taken to the trend only because it was funny and that they never thought of the young teen likely to comment something homophobic or racist. But finally, the actress had to take down her Twitter account. Later on, many fans took to defending her and accusing Twitter users of bullying a literal child.

Fans Defended The Young Actress
With the release of the fourth season of the Netflix series, Stranger Things, the memes were seen to resurface. But fans came to rescue the star. “People are STILL making homophobe Millie Bobby Brown jokes? IN 2022???”, many of the fans expressed their surprise and concern.
Brown has been an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ community and has shown public support for GLAAD’s Together movement. Recently in one of the interviews, fans addressed the speculations about Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) being gay in ‘Stranger Things‘. The ‘Enola Holmes‘ lead reacted, “Can I just say, it’s 2022 and we don’t have to label things”. A fit and supportive reaction indeed!
