“It Just Didn’t Feel Like…”: Rachel McAdams Finally Explains Why She Wasn’t A Part Of ‘Mean Girls’ Commercial

Mean Girls‘ has managed to remain a classic in Hollywood decades after it was released. And it would not have been the same without its iconic character of Regina George played by Rachel McAdams. As if to rekindle the film’s glory, Walmart recently came up with a commercial blending its holiday deals with ‘Mean Girls’ nostalgia.

Released on November 1, the commercial featured all the beloved characters of the film in their adult lives. But a chief element was missing. Rachel McAdams rather surprisingly refused to join the reunion that her fans were so ardently looking forward to. In a recent interview, she clarified the reason behind her decision.

Speaking with Variety Magazine, McAdams said she was not particularly thrilled about participating in the reunion. The actress plainly stated that she did not want to be in a commercial.

I guess I wasn’t that excited about doing a commercial if I’m being totally honest,” 45-year-old McAdams said. “I’ve never done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag,” she clarified.

McAdams also said that she “didn’t know that everyone” including Lohan, Seyfried, and Chabert was participating in the ad. “I would, of course, always love to be part of a Mean Girls reunion and hang with my Plastics,” the actress said. “But yeah, I found that out later.”

Except for McAdams, the commercial featured all the other characters from ‘Mean Girls’, including Lindsay Lohan reprised as Cady Heron, Lacey Chabert as Gretchen Wieners, and Amanda Seyfried as Karen Smith.

Though the fans of the movie missed McAdams in the commercial, it worked as a nostalgic yet refreshing journey back to the film’s peak days. The cast members also rejoiced at the opportunity to rekindle their bond as well as the essence of the movie.

Speaking about her cameo in the upcoming ‘Mean Girls’ movie musical, McAdams said that she and Tina Fey didn’t film one. “Tina and I sort of dabbled with a few ideas, but it was tough to make it all work in the end,” she said.

However, she said she is excited about the new screen adaptation of the Broadway musical, which is set to release on January 12.
