“It’s Here To Stay, So Just Get Used To It”: Reese Witherspoon On The Age Of AI

We all have a kind of uncertainty about Artificial Intelligence. It is expanding so quickly that people fear for their jobs, privacy, and the authenticity of human touch in different aspects of life. Focusing on the same issue, Reese Witherspoon talked about the major threats of AI during an interview.

The ‘Legally Blonde‘ actress spoke about how AI can impact Hollywood at PaleyFest. She said, “It’s here to stay, so just get used to it. And I think AI is not coming for your job; people who know how to use AI are coming for your job.” Witherspoon continued that we shouldn’t be completely dependent on the usage of AI. Well, this is a real argument many make that we are human beings and we have a mind of our own. So, instead of getting most of our work done by relying on technology, our brain power should contribute to the tasks at hand.

Witherspoon continued, “So learn about it. It should be a tool upon which we lay our own creativity, our own humanity and our own ethics. That’s a whole conversation — for women and people of color and people who are othered sometimes in those developmental spaces really need to get in there… let’s not be scared of it, let’s dive in.” AI should surely be a resource but shouldn’t serve as a source without which we are incapable of completing our jobs.

Is AI Going To Take Over Hollywood?

It seems like AI has the potential to take over all sectors including marketing, teaching, learning, and the list goes on. Hollywood is a place that employs millions of people to act, write, design, direct, produce and countless other things. AI will not be able to take the traditional acting career of celebrities, at least for now, but many creatives who earn their livelihoods by penning new visions can take a hit. This is what the Hollywood Writers Strike by SAG-AFTRA Union in 2023 was all about. Studios have already started experimenting with AI screenwriters.

However, with the advancement of the movie-making industry and the evolution of new concepts of visual storytelling being introduced, AI could be of great help and could cut down the cost involved in the making of a movie. They are already recreating the voices of artists who have died like John Lennon. Currently, fans aren’t happy about it, but some living legends like Tom Hanks have already given their consent for AI to keep up their legacy. It’s to be seen if AI proves to be a brilliant boom or a bane in Hollywood.
