The medical drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘, which first aired in 2005, has been running for 19 seasons and has since amassed a loyal and passionate viewership. It is also the longest-running scripted prime-time series running. The show has highlighted several themes around the medical field in relation to gender, mental health, sexual assault, police brutality, etc. The titular character, Ellen Pompeo, has been one of the major foundations of the show.

Much To Fan’s Dismay, Ellen Pompeo Is Exiting ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
At the autumn finale of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, season 19, a promo video for the return of the series with the episode titled, ‘I’ll Follow the Sun‘ will show Meredith Grey stepping down from being the central focus of the show’s story line. In the trailer, the core cast member was seen being toasted as her departure to Seattle nears. The fans also get to know that her house burns down, and only a post-it note on which she and Dr Derek Shepherd wrote their survival vows survives, definitely causing an emotional turmoil for the fans. The burning down of her house becomes the reason for her permanently leaving. Moreover, from the previous episodes, it has also established that Meredith will also work outside of Seattle. In episode five, Meredith announced that she’s moving to Boston after she is offered a job in Alzheimer’s research. Her daughter also founds a school in Boston she wants to enrol in.
However, Pompeo isn’t completely leaving the series. It’s highly likely that she will be making cameos in the future. She will also continue to provide voiceover narrations for each episode.
