Hollywood equates to Tom Cruise when it comes to a global level. From ‘Mission: Impossible’ to ‘War of the Worlds’, the actor has done a variety of roles. And for the dedication the actor shows for his movies, he has been well paid. His income has made him one of the richest actors in the world. But there’s something amiss and that’s an Oscar.
Tom Cruise started his career back in the 1980s debuting through supporting roles in a couple of films. With ‘Risky Business’ and ‘Top Gun’, the actor made a name for himself around the globe. Then there was no turning back. Action-packed movies became the actor’s signature genre. Not winning an award has not disappointed Cruise much, because acting is more than that to him.
Tom Cruise Doesn’t Need Oscars
Four decades of acting career, Tom Cruise has done a number of movies. But he has never won an Oscar. It would be pretty disappointing. But no! For the ‘Knight & Day’ actor, acting is more than just winning an award. “I didn’t grow up watching the Oscars, so it’s never been a goal. I wanted to act. People have tried to get me to do a role by saying, ‘This is your Oscar.’ That means nothing to me,” the actor said according to the Irish Examiner in 2005.
The 61-year-old has come close to an Oscar win multiple times. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the film ‘Magnolia‘ in 2000. In addition, he was also nominated for the Best Actor category in 1997 and 1990 for the films ‘Jerry Maguire’ and ‘Born On the Fourth of July’ respectively. “I’ve always felt what I do is extraordinary, being able to make these pictures and doing something you love. So, I’ll just keep doing it. I love it, I don’t do it for the awards,” the ‘Rain Man’ actor told BBC in 2002.

Why Tom Cruise Returned His Golden Globe Award
Golden Globes did not leave Tom Cruise alone. The ‘Tropic Thunder‘ actor won Golden Globes for all three films that he was nominated for Oscars. The actor was also nominated for the award for four other times. He was nominated for the movies, ‘Tropic Thunder’, ‘The Last Samurai’, ‘A Few Good Men’ and ‘Risky Business’.
However, the 61-year-old actor returned back his Golden Globes, as confirmed by Variety, according to Cheatsheet. The actor gave back the award due to the controversies in connection with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFTA). The lack of diversity in the non-profit organization is what led the film industry to sever ties.
