Jenna Ortega And Jacob Elordi Are “Perfect” To Play Bella And Edward For ‘Twilight’ Reboot, Says Director

Catherine Hardwicke, the director of ‘Twilight‘, candidly commented upon the cast he would go with if the iconic vampire romance happens to get a reboot. Though there were no real intentions behind choosing those characters, and a reboot is unlikely, the faces she chose have got the fandom thinking.

While the director asserted that there are many young and talented actors today, she pointed at this one peculiar face that would do amazing as Edward Cullen — the lead character in the original movie series, played by Robert Pattinson. As for the role of leading lady Bella, she mentioned a name that’s been in the limelight a lot recently.

In a recent interview on the Watch-a-long podcast, Hardwicke said that Jacob Elordi would perfectly fill up Edward Cullen’s shoes if there is a reboot. “I mean, he’s amazing. He probably would be Edward today,” she said.

She also mentioned that during an unexpected meeting with model Lewis Tan, she found out that he wanted to play the role of Jacob Black back in the days when Twilight auditions were on. “It would’ve changed anyone’s life if they got that part,” she said. The said role was played by Taylor Lautner on the show.

Jenna Ortega Would Be Perfect As Bella Swan

I do think there’s a lot of really cool young actors today. Of course, you just mentioned Jenna Ortega, she’s amazing,” she said, suggesting a new actor for Bella Swan’s character, played by Kristen Stewart in the original movie.

She also recalled how she was extremely skeptical about taking on Robert Pattinson as the leading man of her movie series. Recalling her first-ever impression of the actor when she saw him, the director said, “He had black bangs for hair and was kind of out of shape because he was hanging out at the pub all the time.”

Hardwicke said she saw the potential however and sent over “fun auditions” to the studio. And though the people at the studio were also surprised at the choice, she managed to convince them. “Did you see his cheekbones? We’re doing a makeover on the hair and everything, and he’s going to start working out, and he’s going to be gorgeous,” she said.

And the rest is history. Hardwicke’s gamble was at the right time, in the right place, as Pattinson went on to become one of the most beloved actors after his role as Edward Cullen swooned audiences.
