Jennifer Lawrence may have missed out on ‘Twilight‘, but don’t expect her to lose sleep over it. The Oscar winner recently revealed that failing to land a role in the blockbuster vampire franchise never really bothered her, even after it became one of the biggest movie series of its time.

In fact, she says she barely knew what ‘Twilight‘ was when she auditioned. One rejection, however, hit very differently. Looking back on her early acting days, Lawrence admitted there was only one audition loss that truly “devastated” her.

Lawrence recently looked back at some of the biggest auditions she lost during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show. One of them was for Twilight, but she admitted she never felt upset about missing the role because she had no idea how huge the franchise would become.

Howard Stern asked, “You auditioned for Twilight?“. Lawrence replied, “I did.” When Stern followed up by asking why she didn’t get the part, she explained, “I didnโ€™t really know what it was. You just get a few pages and theyโ€™re like, โ€˜Act, monkey!

After Twilight became a global sensation, Lawrence admitted she was surprised by its success. “When it came out, I was like, โ€˜Hot damn!“. However, when Stern asked if she felt jealous about missing the film, she made it clear that Twilight was never the audition that truly hurt. “No. The only audition that truly devastated me was Tim Burtonโ€™s Alice in Wonderland.

Lawrence has spoken about the ‘Alice in Wonderland‘ audition before, explaining that it was the only rejection that genuinely crushed her. During an earlier appearance on The Howard Stern Show, she revealed that she and Emma Stone often competed for the same roles in Hollywood before both became major stars.

She said, “Emma Stone and I had this conversation once, ’cause we used to always audition for the same thing… She got one thing that I was dying for, but the one thing that really killed me โ€” the only time I’ve ever been truly devastated by losing an audition … was Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.”

Director Tim Burton eventually cast Mia Wasikowska as Alice in the 2010 fantasy film alongside Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. Even though the movie received mixed reviews from critics, it became a massive box office hit for Disney and later got a sequel, ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass‘. Lawrence had nothing but praise for Wasikowska, saying, “[S]he was perfect and amazing, and I couldn’t have had a British accent.”

Although Lawrence missed out on ‘Twilight‘ and ‘Alice in Wonderland‘, she soon landed the lead role in ‘The Hunger Games‘, another young adult franchise that became a worldwide phenomenon. Even so, she admitted she had mixed feelings before signing on because she worried the role would define her career.
