John Cena Announces He’ll Retire From WWE In 2025. Here’s The Rich Legacy He’ll Leave Behind

A former WWE champion and now a stunning actor John Cena on Sunday confirmed that he will retire from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 2025. Considering that Cena has majorly dominated the WWE scenes for over twenty years now, his retirement would essentially mark the end of an era.

In his lifetime, he has captured many championships, has had amazing feuds, and has impacted not only fans, but other wrestlers greatly. Here’s what the actor said about retiring and the legacy he will leave behind.

Wresting superstar and actor John Cena announced retirement from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), as confirmed in a post on X on July 7. “John Cena announces retirement from in-ring competition, stating that WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas will be his last,” the post by WWE read. 

Tonight, I am officially announcing my retirement from the WWE,” Cena said. While the announcement has left many including people from the fraternity as well as his fans saddened, there’s a heavy legacy he is set to leave behind.  

Cena began his wrestling career in 2001 and debuted in WWE in June 2002, quickly becoming one of the most decorated superstars in the company’s history. By the year 2005 Cena had already captured his first WWE Championship, though he would eventually win the championship sixteen times making the record of Ric Flair. Since 2018, Cena has taken a part-time role in WWE to focus on his film career, similar to his rival Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Despite this, he has made brief returns, including a recent appearance at WrestleMania 40, where he helped Cody Rhodes defeat Roman Reigns for the WWE Championship.

John Cena’s Iconic Matches And Rivalries

Some of the biggest feuds and stories in the history of WWE involve John Cena. Some of his most acclaimed opponents include Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock, Brock Lesnar, Edge, and Randy Orton among others.

Whether a hero or villain inside the ring, Cena has maintained his knack for entertaining and thus has a staple place for himself in the WWE’s main event. One of his most popular rivalries was with The Rock, which led to two classic main events in WrestleMania.

In 2009, he was also honored with the superior Chris Greicius Award for his efforts towards the development of the said entity.
