Kathy Griffin has revealed why one Hollywood star remains firmly on her personal “hit list,” and the reason goes back to an awkward celebrity dinner party years ago.
Despite acknowledging Jon Hamm‘s talent and charm, the comedian admitted she still has not forgiven him for comments she says ruined a once-in-a-lifetime conversation with Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson.
Kathy Griffin Reveals Why Jon Hamm Is Still on Her “Hit List”

Kathy Griffin spoke about her long-running grudge during a recent appearance on the “In Your Dreams With Owen Thiele” podcast. When host Owen Thiele asked who was on her “hit list” in 2026, Griffin did not hesitate before naming Jon Hamm.
The 65-year-old comedian joked, “Like, nobody hates Jon Hamm except me.” Even so, Griffin admitted she understands why many people admire the Mad Men star. She described him as “funny” and “hot,” but said her opinion of him changed after a few unpleasant encounters.
Griffin first recalled dating a man who belonged to Hamm’s fantasy football league. According to her, Hamm came across as disrespectful toward her boyfriend. “I used to date a guy that was in his fantasy football league, and I thought Hammy was rude to my boyfriend,” she recalled. “I just thought, ‘Ooh, that shows bad character.’“
Griffin then shared another experience involving Hamm at one of late Hollywood super-agent Sue Mengers’ famous dinner parties. Jack Nicholson was also among the guests, and Griffin said she finally had the chance to enjoy a meaningful conversation with the Oscar-winning actor.
Although she had met Nicholson before, Griffin admitted she always felt intimidated by him. She became thrilled when he greeted her by name and began discussing Martin Scorsese’s The Departed, a film she considers a classic.
Griffin Says She Never Forgave the Actor

According to Griffin, the conversation ended abruptly when Hamm, whom she claimed was intoxicated, interrupted them. She alleged that the actor repeatedly mocked both her age and her Emmy Awards while standing beside her.

“So [Hamm] is next to me in my ear, and he’s going, ‘You’re so old. What’s it like to be so old? Your Emmys are fake Emmys,'” Griffin recalled. She responded, “‘Not now, Hammy. And you don’t even have an Emmy.'” Griffin said Nicholson never noticed the exchange because he had already turned away. “And then I turned back to Jack, who missed the whole thing,” Griffin said. “But I never forgave Hammy for that.”
Thiele asked whether Hamm may have been joking, and Griffin agreed it was possible. Still, she insisted the comments did not land the way he may have intended. “I think so,” she admitted. “Sometimes hot guys, like when they don’t know how to be funny, they just get mean, and they think that it’s like banter and we’re going to spar. But I just kill them. I just eat them. I just go, chomp chomp chomp.“
While Kathy Griffin admitted Jon Hamm may have been trying to make a joke, she made it clear that the moment left a lasting impression. Years later, she still sees the awkward encounter as one she cannot overlook, proving that even in Hollywood, some celebrity dinner party memories never fade.
