‘Legally Blonde’ is incomplete without Reese Witherspoon’s perky Elle Woods and Luke Wilson’s charming Emmett Richmond. However, Luke Wilson told People that it was not actually his thing. The revelation is quite surprising since he has starred in several rom-coms.
Interestingly, the ‘Old School’ actor starred in ‘Legally Blonde’ only because he wanted to work with Reese Witherspoon. Wilson is a big fan of Witherspoon and working with seemed like a good enough reason to do something he originally did not want to do. Wilson is all praise for Witherspoon and talks about his experience filming with her to People.

Luke Wilson Is A Big Fan Of Reese Witherspoon
Luke Wilson opened up about landing a role ‘Legally Blonde’ even though he was not really interested in doing it. But the actor said he went ahead anyway only because he thought “it’ll be fun to work with Reese.” During a recent interview, Luke Wilson revealed that he became a fan of the actress after watching her in ‘Election’.
“She was great in that, just kind of a real force. It’s harder than it looks, I think, to act like a teen and be realistic,” Wilson said, as he further spoke about working with the ever talented actress.
Recalling the first day of filming with Witherspoon, he said, “The first day seeing her in wardrobe, and how she was talking and carrying herself, I just thought, ‘Okay, now I’ve got to concentrate. She is really doing something and working hard and making a real character out of this.’”
Speaking about Witherspoon’s iconic character Elle Woods in the film, Wilson said, “I think people take it for granted. On paper, the character could have been a Saturday Night Live skit.”

Luke Wilson Praises Reese Witherspoon’s Professionalism
‘Legally Blonde’ was one of the top ranked movies of the time, and is now being developed as a TV series by Witherspoon herself. Luke Wilson believed that the film owes most of its success to Reese Witherspoon and her fantastic job as an actor. Wilson feels she added a certain depth to the character while retaining the “over-the-top” mannerisms.
“It reminded me of people I’d come across in Texas: just very forthright, they know what they want, very direct and ambitious, but also sweet and kind. And having this veneer of clothes and hair and nails and things like that,” Wilson said.
The actor added added that he believes Reese Witherspoon is “doing something really, really cool”. He added that while working with her, it was her attitude and dedication to her art that made him “buckle down and do a good job to play the straight man alongside her, to serve her character.” Undoubtedly, he did a great job as Emmett Richmond in the movie, all thanks to Reese Witherspoon!
