Neil Patrick Harris has bagged a role in ‘Doctor Who‘. To commemorate the show’s 60th anniversary, the first-look image of his character was revealed. It seems BBC has some big plans to mark the milestone.
The anniversary is also coinciding with a regeneration between doctors, as Jodie Whittaker is set to leave the role of the 13th Doctor in her next special. Ncuti Gatwa will take over as the 14th Doctor in the long-running sci-fi series. But, which character would Neil Patrick Harris be essaying? Well, Twitter has some ideas.

Which Character Will Neil Patrick Harris Play In ‘Doctor Who’?
Neil Patrick Harris is joining the cast of ‘Doctor Who‘ for the 60th anniversary. Though the details of his character remain undisclosed, it is likely that he would play a villainous role. According to BBC, the actor is joining the series to film “scenes set to air in 2023 as part of the show’s 60th anniversary.” Few other details were shared about his character with a first-look image.
Showrunner Russell T. Davies had a few words to say about Harris’ casting. He said, “It’s my huge honor to open our studio doors for the mighty Neil Patrick Harris… but who, why, what is he playing? You’ll just have to wait. But I promise you, the stuff we’re shooting now is off the scale. Doctor beware!”
Davies gave an insight into Harris’ character by calling him “the greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced.” This indicates that the role is a villainous one. The line, “Doctor beware!” and the glare Harris is giving in the photo certainly seem to back that up.
A look at the ‘How I Met Your Mother‘ star’s ‘Doctor Who‘ costume looks like something a craftsman might wear. Maybe he’s a kind of toymaker, which is Twitter users’ popular guess.
Harris also commented on the casting: “This Doctor has no idea what’s in store. And even if he does… Who cares? Ha ha ha HA ha-ha-ha!“
‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Plans
While the current Doctor is changing faces, a former Doctor and his companion are also set to appear for the 60th anniversary. David Tennant and Catherine Tate are both returning to the show as well, though it’s still unclear if they’re playing the same versions of the 10th Doctor and Donna Noble. ‘Doctor Who‘ has also cast Yasmin Finney as a new version of Rose for the 60th anniversary.
Clearly, the Doctor will be facing off against Harris’ character in the upcoming special. But which Doctor? Is it Gatwa’s 14th Doctor or Tennant’s 10th? All these questions remain unanswered.
It’s not even being referred to as a special of its own, but rather “scenes set to air“. This hints that the scenes might come under the episodes of ‘Doctor Who‘ season 14.
