Drug abuse is a problem that several celebrities in Hollywood struggle with. While some have a very nonchalant approach toward drug usage, others are open about their struggle with it and how it is impacting their lives. Comedian Pete Davidson is also a victim of drug abuse and has, in fact, been very open about it.
In his new Netflix special, ‘Turbo Fonzarelli’, Davidson admitted to being under the influence of ketamine when he attended Aretha Franklin’s funeral with then-fiancée Ariana Grande. Franklin passed away at the age of 76 in August 2018. Here’s how the funeral went for Davidson.

Pete Davidson Says He Is Embarrassed Of Being “Out And About Like That”
Speaking in his Netflix special ‘Turbo Fonzarelli’, Davidson said that he is embarrassed of being “out and about like that“, asserting that he realizes how inappropriate it was. “I’m embarrassed I was out and about like that. That’s not cool,” the stand-up comic says of being under the influence of the drug, which is used to treat depression.
Davidson then jokes that late Franklin will “never know” he was high. “Still, it’s not the point,” he says. The ‘Saturday Night Live‘ alum said that the substance made him put his foot in his mouth in front of the ‘Respect‘ singer’s relatives.
“I was so high I thought it’d be a good idea to go up to her family and go, ‘Hey! I’m just here to pay my R-E-S-P-E-C-Ts,’” he says, sending the audience into a wave of laughter. Davidson playfully imagines Franklin’s reaction, suggesting she might ask, “‘Hey! Who are you and what the f–k are you doing at my funeral?'”
Davidson was accompanying Ariana Grande at the funeral, as she was engaged to him at the time and had been asked to perform in honor of the legendary singer.

Davidson Has A History Of Drug Abuse
Davidson’s drug use has been a known aspect of his personal history. He has been to rehab multiple times, as he also struggles with borderline personality disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Despite his openness about using ketamine for treating depression, Davidson’s publicist had denied that he was still on the drug. Meanwhile, ketamine has recently gained attention, especially after ‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry’s death because of the “acute effects” of ketamine.
However, Dr. Bankole Johnson, one of the leading neuroscientists and physicians in the world, affirmed that ketamine is “generally safe” when administered by “trained health professionals” to treat depression or PTSD.
