The incident took place back in 1996. Tom Cruise and then-wife Nicole Kidman along with their kids and family were vacationing in his yacht. Cruise’s luxury 263-foot yacht Talitha is a work of art in itself. While on vacation, Cruise helped save five people from a burning yacht.

French newspaper tycoon Jacques and Bernadette Lejeue were also enjoying a yacht ride nearby when their boat caught fire due to an electrical short-circuit. Cruise then spotted them along with their 7-year-old daughter and two crew members in a rubber lifeboat.

Without wasting any more time, Cruise jumped in to rescue the family. With his expert skills, he sent over his yacht’s skiff to rescue the family on the rubber raft. After the rescue, they spent time on the luxury yacht for 30 minutes until a patrol boat from Capri took them to safety. Good thing for the French family that Cruise was nearby. Cruise’s publicist later gave a statement saying that Cruise did what any decent person would have done and added, “If I ever get in trouble, I hope Tom Cruise is nearby.”
