Universal Pictures is officially making a new ‘Jurassic World Rebirth‘ sequel, and Scarlett Johansson will be back as Zora Bennett.
The news first broke on Deadline, and, as several outlets report, this is the first major confirmation of where the franchise is headed after the 2025 film made $869 million worldwide.
‘Jurassic World Rebirth‘ Box Office and Budget Breakdown

‘Jurassic World Rebirth‘ was released in July 2025. It was directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp. The story takes place five years after ‘Jurassic World Dominion‘. It follows a secret ops team led by Johansson’s character Zora Bennett, along with Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis and Mahershala Ali. Their mission is to get dinosaur DNA from a remote island full of prehistoric predators to help make new medicines.

Even though the film didn’t hit the billion-dollar mark like the earlier ‘Jurassic World‘ movies and ended up as the lowest earner of that bunch, it still made good money on a reported $200 million budget. That made it a commercial win and a kind of soft reboot for the series.
The movie’s success pushed Johansson to become Hollywood’s highest-grossing lead actor, beating even her Marvel co-stars. It had a huge opening weekend with over $318 million globally. Fans liked the return to raw, survival-based thrills reminiscent of Steven Spielberg’s 1993 original.
Scarlett Johansson on Fulfilling Her ‘Jurassic Park’ Dream

Johansson has been a fan of the franchise for a long time and had wanted a role for years. She said ahead of Rebirth’s release, “It has been a lifelong dream to be in a Jurassic movie for the last 15 years. Each time I heard that they were making a movie, I’d reach out and say ‘I’m available here.’” She called the film “a love letter to Steven’s work” and said fans would “feel the DNA of the original Jurassic Park in this film.”

Her hard work paid off, and she helped lead a new chapter that moved past the Pratt and Howard era while still delivering big action, tension, and real-looking creature effects that people loved watching in theaters.
What to Expect from the Next ‘Jurassic World’ Movie

People close to the project say the sequel will keep going with the Rebirth timeline. Johansson and Bailey are expected to come back as Zora and Loomis. The filming is being talked about for fall 2026, but no plot details, director, or release date have been shared yet. This news shows Universal wants to build a new flagship era around Johansson’s star power and the simple, proven appeal of dinosaur stories set on islands rather than big multiverse crossovers.
The Jurassic franchise has now made over $6 billion in total ticket sales, which shows how much it still means to audiences. Rebirth also did well on Netflix, bringing the story to even more people.
As production gets ready to start, fans are hoping for deeper character stories, bigger dangers, and the mix of wonder and fear that the series is known for.
For Scarlett Johansson, this is another high point in a career full of bold moves, from Black Widow to a dinosaur-fighting action hero. Her character says in the film, “We put ourselves in a place we don’t belong. Survival is a long shot.” That line fits the franchise’s own story of bouncing back. With dinosaurs coming back to the big screen, the future of ‘Jurassic World’ looks fiercer and more profitable than ever.
