“She Is So Sure Footed”: Sharon Stone Supports Lily Rose-Depp Starrer ‘The Idol’ After The Actress Admits Getting Inspired From Her Role In ‘Basic Instinct’

Sam Levinson’s ‘The Idol’ is trying to tear the envelope with every episode starring Lily Rose-Depp and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye! The series was embroiled in controversy even before it aired. A lot of drama unfolded behind the scenes with the change in director and the whole direction of the series. It was supposed to be a satire of Hollywood’s dark and twisted music industry. But Levinson has become a breeding ground for soft p****graphy.

‘The Idol’ explores the story of a pop star, Jocelyn, who has a breakdown leading to the cancellation of her tour. So, she, along with her team, decides to revamp her career with a new sultry single. During the process, she meets a brooding, mystic LA club owner, Tedros, who employs harsh, sensual, and BDSM-esque ways to squeeze out the artistry of Jocelyn. There was chatter that the series is inspired by Britney Spears’ life, but the cast has come forward and said that the inspiration is taken from Sharon Stone’s character from ‘Basic Instinct.’ The actress came forward to show her support for the series.

Fans and critics have unanimously written off ‘The Idol’ for its hyper-s**ualization. Since the first episode, the series has delved into certain waters that feel unnecessary for the narrative. The Rolling Stone wrote an investigative article in which the crew and production members slammed the series for changing its narrative to borderline p****graphy.

But Sharon Stone, one of the inspirations for the series, stood by it and appreciated their efforts. In 1992, Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas starred in the erotic thriller titled ‘Basic Instinct.’ She played a seductress in the film, and Lily Rose-Depp also admitted that her character was inspired by Catherine.

Stone took to social media to support the series. Sharon wrote, “I just watched the first two episodes of @theidol @lilyrose_depp & Abel (@theweeknd) r so sure footed.” She continued, “#SamLevinson addresses the root of crisis in entertainment; Which comes first the brilliance or the heartache?”
