Contractors have sued ‘Modern Family‘ fame Sofía Vergara for failing to pay over $1.7 million for the renovation of her Los Angeles mansion. In the complaint, the contractors at Reside Custom Homes (RCH) have accused Vergara of breach of contract, promissory fraud, and intentional interference with contractual relations, among other allegations.
According to the lawsuit filed against Sophia, she has two invoices amounting to a total of $1,700,492.64 pending against her. The contractors have claimed that though the work was completed in March and July 2023, Vergara still hasn’t paid the outstanding amount.

Sofia Vergara’s Attorney Claims Substandard Quality Of Work
Martin Singer, Vergara’s attorney defended her stating that there were issues with the work. “My client made claims against the contractor, Reside, several months before this specious lawsuit was filed. Sofia Vergara’s claims were for significant overcharging by reside, substandard and negligent work, and long delays seeking damages in excess of $5 million,” the lawyer said.
Official records have shown that the actress had purchased the mansion for about $26 million in 2020. She was still married to her ex-husband Joe Manganiello at the time. Sophia’s business partner, Luis Balaguer, has also been named in the lawsuit.
RCH has claimed that the actress had hired them in April 2022 for renovations. The work they were asked to do was completed in the original scope by December 2022, the company claimed. However, Sophia requested additional work.
The extra tasks included adding plaster from a rural town in the UK to walls and replacing rear stairs with custom fabrication. RCH, which claims it completed the work in time, said they sent an unpaid invoice for $896,196.15 in March and another for $657,245.23 in July to Vergara for the additional work. Both bills remain outstanding, the company said.

Contractors Claim Sophia Was Aggressive, Had Frequent Outbursts
In response, RCH placed a mechanic’s lien against the property in August. RCH also claimed that Sophia did not complain about the work’s quality during regular site check-ins. However, later, she mistreated RCH employees and subcontractors.
The lawsuit claims that Vergara showed aggressive behavior, frequent outbursts, and intimidation. This made it difficult for the workers to have a stable work environment. RCH claimed that she later hired legal representation in October 2023 to “bully them with baseless allegations and threats of litigation“.
Vergara, meanwhile, said during a recent interview with People that it has been a challenging year for her. She said she went through a divorce this year, and the SAG strike also made things difficult for her. The actress is yet to comment on the RCH allegations against her.
