Katie Holmes, the third wife of Tom Cruise, reportedly initiated the divorce to shield her daughter, Suri, from the controversial grasp of Scientology. Sources reveal that Holmes and Cruise had fundamental differences in their beliefs about life. The primary bone of contention was the upbringing of Suri within the confines of Tom’s religion. Scientology is a religion founded by Ron Miscavige in 1950 and Tom was converted to the said practice in 1986 by his first wife Mimi Rogers.
The current Scientology leader is David Miscavige who is the son of Ron Miscavige. Ron had previously disclosed in an interview with DailyMail that Holmes feared Suri’s potential disconnection from her if she followed in Cruise’s footsteps. He said, “The big issue really was raising Suri as a Scientologist,” adding, “If that happened, someday it was a possibility that she would disconnect from Katie. Ultimately this is what has happened to me.”
According to reports, Holmes sought assistance from her father, Martin Joseph Holmes to divorce Cruise. Known for his rigid principles, Martin is said to have played a pivotal role in the legal proceedings. He helped ensure that Holmes could chart a new course for herself and, more importantly, for her daughter Suri.
