“There’s This Whole Pastor’s Daughter Trope”: ‘Euphoria’ Star Hunter Schafer Recalls The Ordeal Of Telling Her Religious Parents About Her Anal Sex Scene

Sex is a universally awkward topic for children to talk about with their parents. For actors who do adult scenes in films and TV shows, it’s a common issue as their parents are very likely to want to watch them on screen. While it is already a difficult conversation to have, it was particularly difficult for ‘Euphoriastar Hunter Schafer, whose parents are pastors.

The actress, who has also been in the headlines for speculation over her sexuality, revealed that her parents are proud of her career and watch all her scenes on the show. While it is definitely a good thing to have proud parents who support you, it has its own banes when you are an actress on a show like ‘Euphoria‘. Speaking on the recent ‘Call Her Daddy‘ podcast, Schafer recalled having to sit down with her pastor parents to discuss some of her racier scenes from the series premiere. Here’s what the actress said.

Hunter Schafer recalled the harrowing moment when she had to discuss her character, Jules, going through rough anal sex with Cal, played by Eric Dane on her popular show ‘Euphoria‘.  Another scene that was a task to discuss was the self-harm scene at a party in front of Nate, played by Jacob Elordi.

Schafer said though her parents’ church is “on the chiller side of Christianity,” she still felt “bad” about talking to her parents about the scene. “There’s this whole pastor’s daughter trope. And it gets kind of tough,” she admitted.

When I had to tell my parents, ‘In the first episode, I’m having anal sex with a 45-year-old and cutting myself in the arm,’ my first thought is like, okay, they have to tell their congregation that their kid’s going to be on TV, and then their congregation, who are just little old nice white Christian people from the south, are going to watch this TV show and see me getting f—ed. I still do feel bad because that’s something they still have to deal with,” the actress said during the interview.

Schafer is set to return along with the rest of the cast, for season 3 of ‘Euphoriain 2025. However she admitted that she or the rest of the cast “have no f—ing idea what’s going on” since there has been a three-year hiatus. “You can ask literally all of the cast,” Schafer said. “The real tea is that a lot has happened,” she said.

If we do go back, that’s going to be tough,” she said. “I think there’s a world in which we can channel that into making it a beautiful season 3 — if it is supposed to happen. I think that s— really threw everyone for a loop,” she said.

Off the show, Schafer also had her share of personal drama that has to do with her dating life. Her relationship with costar Dominic Fike ended after she found out he had cheated on her. “I got cheated on for the first time,” Schafer revealed, claiming it was intuition that caused her to check Fike’s phone. “I’m not proud of [that],” she said.  It was a mutually agreed upon thing,” Schafer said of the breakup.
