Tom Hanks is a name to reckon with. The 66-year-old acting legend has been active in films for around four decades. Often regarded as an American cultural icon, Hanks’s films have grossed around $9.96 billion worldwide. He has also won the Academy Awards on two occasions.
The ‘Forrest Gump‘ actor has done around 100 films in his long career, and most of them were well received. However, in a recent interview, Hanks said that only four of them are “pretty good.” Let’s try and find out what four films are his favorite.

Tom Hanks Says Only Four Of His Films Are Pretty Good
Hanks has done some of the most landmark films of the past few decades. He is the recipient of two Oscars, seven Primetime Emmys as well as the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
In a recent interview with People magazine, the ‘Toy Story‘ actor said that only four films in his career are “pretty good.” “No one knows how a movie is made — though everyone thinks they do,” Hanks said.
He continued: “I’ve made a ton of movies (and four of them are pretty good, I think), and I’m still amazed at how films come together. From a flicker of an idea to the flickering image onscreen, the whole process is a miracle.”
Though he did not mention the four films, we can take a guess here. ‘Forrest Gump‘ and ‘Philadelphia‘ earned him the Academy Award for best actor. He also received nominations for starring in the survival drama ‘Cast Away‘ and the war film ‘Saving Private Ryan.’ So these four films might be the ones he was talking about.

Hanks Announces His First Book Inspired By His Hollywood Experience
Hanks has announced his second book titled ‘The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece.’ This fiction book will release in May 2023 by Penguin Random House.
Per the synopsis, the book is about “the making of a colossal, star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film and the humble comic book that inspired it.” It will also touch upon the changes in America and American culture since World War II.
“Every character in the book does something I’ve experienced while making a movie, as well as discovered a philosophy or learned an important lesson,” Hanks said. “Even the foolish moments are some kind of stunt I’ve pulled or mistake I’ve survived.”
The actor also talked about the pain and joy of filmmaking. “Movie-making is very hard work over a very long period of time that consists of so many moments of joy slapped up against an equal number of feelings of self-loathing,” he said. “It is the greatest job in the world and the most confounding of labors that I know of.”
