Why Was The Kissing Scene ‘Horrifying’ To Emma Watson?
Emma Watson said in an interview with her co-stars from ‘Harry Potter‘ that she much dreaded that impending kissing scene with Rupert Grint. She feared they would never complete the scene. David Yates, who directed the final four films of the fantasy franchise, said, “I spoke to both of them in their trailers, made sure they were both comfortable. It was almost like prepping them for a major sports event.” Even after all the pre-prep, Rupert Grint felt like he would black out when Emma moved her face closer to kiss him in the scene. Rupert said, “I think I kind of blacked out. I just remember your face getting closer and closer to mine.”
“I knew I was kind of going to be the one to kind of make this thing happen because Rupert was not going to. So I just had to go for it,” Emma said to her co-stars. David said that he “saw Rupert’s face explode with surprise” in that first take. Emma said that he made it sound “like an actual horror show,” to which he said, “It wasn’t that bad, I know.”
Emma finally broke the silence in an interview with Jonathan Ross that her fellow co-stars are like siblings to her and it felt so wrong. “Kissing Rupert was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. It just felt wrong, so wrong on every level because Dan, Rup and I are so much siblings,” she explained.
When Daniel Radcliffe Was A “Complete D***” To Emma Watson And Rupert Grint
Daniel Radcliffe said he teased Watson and Grint about their kissing session and was a ‘complete d**k’ to them. “I did not make this better because I have been told significantly that I was just being an absolute d**k about this and being like, ‘I am going to come on set and watch you guys kiss’,” he said. Just like that, Emma said in the interview that Daniel added oil to the fire.
The reunion special featured Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint alongside Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, and Evanna Lynch.
