Trump’s Presidency was marred with controversies. This includes his bizarre tweets, comments as well as policies. He also created history by becoming the first US President to be impeached twice.

The House voted 232-197 to impeach Trump and the proceedings moved quickly with lawmakers voting just one week after violent pro-Trump loyalists stormed the Capitol. He had urged his voters to “fight like hell” against the election results.

Ten Republicans fled Trump and joined Democrats who said he needed to be held accountable and he was a “clear and present danger”. Trump had made false claims of voter fraud during the elections that led to his defeat.

In August 2019, a whistleblower filed a complaint with the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community about a call between Trump and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy was pressurized by Trump to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter. The White House had tried to cover up this incident.

An impeachment inquiry began in September and Trump revealed that he withheld military aid from Ukraine and offered contradictory reasons. In October, William B. Taylor Jr., the chargé d’affaires for Ukraine, testified before congressional committees that in June 2019, he found that Zelenskyy was being subjected to pressure by Trump and Rudy Giuliani.

On December 13, the House Judiciary Committee voted along party lines to pass two articles of impeachment. One was for abuse of power and one was for obstruction of Congress. After debate, the House of Representatives impeached Trump on both articles later.
