Zac Efron was all praises for his co-star Joey King’s performance in their recent comedy ‘A Family Affair‘, revealing that her comedic timing reminded him of the late comedy legend Matthew Perry. Elaborating more on it, Efron also shared a particular scene that had him in stitches.
“Her stunt — when you walk in the room when Nicole [Kidman] and I are hooking up — it’s one of the funniest things ever,” Efron said. “I think that was one of the most brilliant physical comedy bits I’ve seen in a long time. That was very funny. Matthew Perry-esque. It was genius.”
The comment coming from Efron is indeed a big deal as he has a personal connection to the late Perry’s comedic genius. The actor has played the younger version of Perry in the 2009 film ‘17 Again‘.
Naturally, King’s reaction to Efron’s high praise was humble. “Oh, that’s so nice of you. Oh gosh,” the ‘We were the Lucky Ones‘ star said, realizing fully well the gravity of being compared to the iconic actor who recently passed away because of an acute dosage of Ketamine.

In ‘A Family Affair‘, Zac Efron assumes the role of Chris Cole, a mega movie star struggling with his love life because to his fame. When his personal assistant, Zara , played by Joey King, quits after reaching her limit with his absurd demands, Chris finds himself falling for her mother, Brooke, played by Nicole Kidman.
The resultant romantic and professional chaos brings plenty of laughs as the trio navigates their new, complicated dynamic. Amid the emotional complexities are genius comedic tinges. The scene that Efron mentioned is a comedic highlight.
Chris and Brooke get drunk and forget to lock the bedroom door before things get steamy. Zara comes home, stumbles upon them in a compromising position, and chokes on a grape. In an attempt to escape the horror in front of her, she stumbles and then knocks herself out by hitting her head on the doorframe.
Efron also recently shared a behind-the-scenes video of King performing this hilarious bit. In the clip, Efron can be heard laughing and shouting, “Let’s go!” Meanwhile, Kidman asks him to turn the camera toward her and exclaims, “That’s my girl!” while giving a thumbs up. Efron added, “[She does] all her own stunts. So good.”
