In recent years, Dreamer has been steadily climbing the ranks from a promising newcomer to one of DC’s hottest heroes. Now, the character is making another big leap forward with a story that sees her in a role typically reserved for the publisher’s biggest icons.

Nia Nal is suddenly thrust into a different reality in Justice League: Dream Girls, A DC Pride Event #1. In it she embarks on a journey that is reminiscent of Wonder Woman’s legendary exploits. Not a replacement for Diana Prince, but a great look at the progress Dreamer has made since her debut.

If you’re a longtime DC reader, it’s pretty obvious that the publisher thinks Dreamer is more than a sidekick. Dreamer was introduced in Supergirl and eventually transitioned into the DC Comics continuity. The move from screen to print is a challenge many comic book characters have faced.

However, Nia Nal has been steadily making her way into the DC universe. Her next adventure takes that evolution to the next level. Nia is suddenly thrust into a world of dreams and is affected by the realm’s strong magic. She is playing a role akin to Wonder Woman.

In the process, she meets some of the familiar elements of Diana’s origin, like the culture of the Amazons. The most interesting part of the story is that it doesn’t just put Dreamer in Wonder Woman’s costume and leave it at that.

Instead, it delves into the ways Nia’s own experiences, powers, and personality drive her journey. That distinction helps to keep the story fresh while respecting the legacy of Wonder Woman.

It’s incredible to see how fast Dreamer has risen to become a big name in DC’s modern storytelling. She’s been on the front lines instead of the sidelines of important stories, from changing reality to facing threats from the Justice League.

It’s also a bit thrilling to see a relatively new hero get the opportunities that are usually only given to DC’s big guns. From cosmic threats to dream worlds, Dreamer is still proving herself to be one of the publisher’s top heroes.

This is a new story, perhaps set in an alternate reality, but with a message that is clear. DC is putting a lot of time into Nia Nal’s future, and readers are seeing her develop into a character who can carry a big story. For fans who have followed Dreamer’s journey from television to comics, it’s hard not to smile at how far she’s come.
