Over the years, many Batman comics were adapted into mainstream media with multiple actors picking up the mantle of the Caped Crusador. One among them was Robert Pattinson, who wore the cape of Batman in the 2022 film, starring opposite him was Paul Dana as The Riddler.
Despite the superhero fatigue, Dano revealed his theory about why the Batman film works. Here’s what the actor has to say about the success of Robert Pattinson’s film.

Paul Dano Shares Why ‘The Batman’ Was A Success
In the latest interview with The Independent, Paul Dano spoke about how ‘The Batman’ became a commercial success when the other Marvel films were finding it difficult to break even. Dano said, “There are enough comic book movies where you just know what you’re gonna get. Reading the script for The Batman, you knew it was a real film. Every sentence… that’s just [writer/director] Matt Reeves.”
The ‘Love & Mercy’ star said that staring in ‘The Batman’ was a turning point in his career and since then he has avoided working on a big-scale project. However, Dano enjoyed his success in ‘The Batman‘ as the actor said, “I was able to really enjoy it. It wasn’t too much for me. I liked the fan fervor around it. I became a total Batman dork.”

Paul Dano’s Opinion On Superhero Fatigue
Recently, Marvel Studios has faced criticism for their poor quality of projects and VFX. From ‘The Marvels‘ to ‘Eternals‘, fans have been upset with the film being delivered to them. Brie Larson’s ‘The Marvels‘ could not live up to the expectations of ‘Captain Marvel‘ and in ‘Eternals’ several new characters were introduced which made it difficult for the fans to follow, let alone develop a new fan base.
Reflecting upon the superhero fatigue, Paul Dano said, “It’s an interesting moment where everybody has to go like, OK – what now? Hopefully from that, somebody either breathes new life into [comic book movies], or something else blossoms which is not superheroes. I’m sure there will still be some good ones yet to come, but I think it’s kind of a welcome moment.”
Dano further added, “It’s a larger thing, too. As soon as the word ‘content’ came into what we do – meaning making movies or TV – it meant quantity over quality, which I think was a big misstep. And I certainly don’t need that as a viewer or as an artist.”
