Kumail Nanjiani Rumoured To Play Booster Gold In James Gunn’s DCU After Admitting ‘Eternals’ Failure Gave Him Trauma

Kumail Nanjiani has seen success both in comedic and dramatic roles recently. Best known for his roles in HBO’s ‘Silicon Valley‘ and his Oscar-nominated film ‘The Big Sick‘, Nanjiani also starred in 2021’s Marvel’sEternals‘. Now it seems the actor may be joining the expanding DC universe in a new role.

Rumors suggest Nanjiani has been cast as fan favorite Booster Gold in a Maxwell Lord project helmed by James Gunn for DC Studios. Though unconfirmed, the rumors indicate an exciting and bold casting choice. Fans eagerly await official confirmation of Nanjiani’s potential role, which could bring a fresh and dynamic energy to the beloved character.

According to sources close to the developing project, Kumail Nanjiani has signed on to portray Michael Jon Carter. Booster Gold was first announced as part of the initial DC Studios slate revealed earlier this year. Described as telling the story of “imposter syndrome”, the character of Booster Gold seems like a blend of comedy and depth, making it a perfect fit for Nanjiani.

Gunn is known for finding exciting cast choices that elevate his projects, so bringing Nanjiani into the fold to lead this new corner of the DCU seems very much in line with Gunn’s sensibilities.

The character of Booster Gold made his first appearance in DC Comics in 1986. Created by Dan Jurgens, Michael Jon Carter was a disgraced college football star from the future who travels back in time. He does this to make a name for himself as a superhero in the present day.

Armed with a power suit and access to futuristic technology, Booster took the superhero name to try and find fame and fortune. However, his motivations were less than pure as he struggled with his identity as a celebrity and a hero. This internal conflict made for great story-telling potential that Gunn could have fun exploring.

Fans will have to stay tuned for any official confirmation from DC studios that Nanjiani will be portraying Booster Gold. But if true, it seems they have found an excellent leading man to bring this complex, entertaining character to the screen.
