Hal Jordan‘s story may not be over after the shocking events of ‘Lanterns’ Season 1. His death leaves John Stewart carrying his legacy, but the finale also quietly leaves behind something that could become the key to bringing Hal back.
If the series follows the mythology it has already established, Hal could return in Season 2, but not necessarily as the same Green Lantern viewers knew. The wild possibility is that Hal Jordan could come back connected to Parallax, turning his resurrection into a much bigger problem for John.
Hal’s Consciousness Could Still Be Inside John’s Ring

One of the strangest details from the finale is what happens to Halogram. The digital version of Hal appears to be running out of power, yet his consciousness seemingly survives after entering John’s ring when it becomes charged. That detail could be extremely important.

If Halogram isn’t simply a recording but actually contains Hal’s memories, personality, and consciousness, then the series may have effectively created a backup copy of Hal Jordan. His physical body is gone, but some version of him could still exist inside the Lantern.
That’s where Sinestro and Parallax could enter the story. Every Lantern Corps is traditionally connected to an emotional entity, and the Yellow Lanterns are powered by Parallax, the embodiment of fear. In the comics, Parallax famously possesses Hal Jordan, transforming one of the greatest Green Lanterns into a catastrophic threat.
Lanterns has already established its own complicated relationship between green and yellow energy. John even ends the season with a ring containing yellow, while Sinestro has been experimenting with Lantern technology outside the Guardians’ control. So what happens if Parallax encounters Hal’s surviving consciousness?
Hal Jordan Can Return As Something Terrifying

The theory is that Sinestro could use John’s ring as the bridge between Halogram, Parallax, and the physical world. Instead of resurrecting Hal exactly as he was, Parallax could possess the surviving version of Hal and essentially rebuild him around that consciousness.

That would give Season 2 a fascinating problem. John wouldn’t simply be fighting a villain. He’d be facing the man who trained him, trusted him, and ultimately became the reason he inherited the ring. That would make Hal’s death far more meaningful in retrospect.
His legacy wouldn’t simply disappear. It would come back to haunt John. And honestly, Hal Jordan plus Parallax is exactly the kind of return that could finally push Lanterns beyond its grounded first season and into the stranger, more dangerous mythology of Green Lantern.
