‘Lanterns’ Theory Explains Why Sinestro Really Wants Hal Jordan Back

‘Lanterns’ may be setting up a comic book storyline that completely changes the meaning of Sinestro‘s relationship with Hal Jordan. If the series is following the broad idea behind Hal’s transformation into Parallax, Sinestro may not simply be an old mentor with a hidden agenda. He could be the person deliberately pushing Hal toward becoming the host of the fear entity.

The theory becomes especially interesting because several pieces of the show’s mystery can be read differently once Parallax enters the picture.

Sinestro May Have Been Breaking Hal All Along

In the comics, Sinestro’s hatred of Hal eventually leads him toward a much darker plan. Parallax is a fear entity connected to the emotional spectrum, and Hal becomes its host after his resistance is gradually worn down. The destruction of Coast City becomes the breaking point.

The show has already established Sinestro as someone who understands far more about Hal’s disappearance than John does. His time in prison, his knowledge of the wider Lantern mythology, and his mysterious confidence all make his involvement feel much bigger than a simple conspiracy.

The Halogram Could Be Part Of The Trap

John’s growing dependence on Hal’s holographic presence may also become important. What if the Halogram isn’t merely helping John solve the mystery? What if it has already been compromised or was created under circumstances John doesn’t fully understand?

The animated film ‘Green Lantern: Beware My Power’ previously explored a version of this idea, with Sinestro manipulating Hal into becoming connected to Parallax before the situation spirals out of control.

If ‘Lanterns’ borrows that basic comic-book DNA, Sinestro’s “I know a way” could be the biggest warning sign yet. The frightening possibility is that John isn’t witnessing Hal’s return. He may be watching Parallax being born.
