Fans finally get to see Nicholas Hoult’s return as Lex Luthor in ‘Man of Tomorrow’ in a new image from the film’s set, thanks to director James Gunn. The image features Hoult in his iconic green war suit, a key part of the character’s comic book legacy that has never been seen in live-action films.

Gunn joked the image was a “Fit check,” but the reveal soon became one of the biggest of the upcoming DCU film. It’s the most obvious yet sign that ‘Man of Tomorrow’ is taking some of the super-sized elements that have been a staple of Superman comics for decades.

Over the years, Lex Luthor has donned many different iterations of his iconic battlesuits, which are equipped with advanced armor to even the odds with the much more powerful Superman. That signature look is now making its debut in DCU.

The suit isn’t just for show, Gunn said. The filmmaker said the armor is entirely functional, and Hoult was able to move around freely when shooting action scenes. “It’s unbelievably mobile,” Gunn wrote. “And yeah, in the movie version, he’s added unbreakable Lexiglas trademarked,” he added.

The reveal shows the amount of effort that has gone into making the comic-book feel real. The production did not use all digital effects; instead, they created a working suit that Hoult can wear on set. It’s the kind of detail that comic fans would love to see, and it definitely makes Lex feel more dangerous than ever.

Man of Tomorrow’ will return with the same cast of characters, Lex Luthor (Hoult) and Superman (David Corenswet). However, the sequel will likely go in an unexpected direction. The two longtime enemies will be put to the test in an uneasy alliance against one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, Brainiac.

Brainiac will be played by the villain Lars Eidinger, who teased that the character has a type of intelligence that has no human connection. Even with the bigger threat, Gunn has insisted that Lex is the main focus of the story.

The director had earlier said that the project was as much Lex’s film as it was Superman’s, and he was thrilled to dive into the relationship between the two characters. Production is underway, and Lex is now in costume for battle. ‘Man of Tomorrow’ is looking to be one of the most comic-book-accurate portrayals of Superman’s most infamous foe ever on the big screen.
