With excitement mounting for ‘The Batman Part II’, Colin Farrell has given a positive update that should put fans who were concerned about the future of Gotham’s newest crime kingpin to rest. After the sheer popularity of ‘The Penguin’, many viewers were asking themselves how Oz Cobb would be incorporated into Matt Reeves’ next installment of Batman.
The HBO series made the longstanding Batman bad guy a key player in the franchise, making his appearance seem like a foregone conclusion. Farrell has now confirmed he’ll return to the role. His comments also indicate that the sequel may be a bit different than what some fans are hoping.
Colin Farrell Confirms His Batman Return While Teasing A Smaller Role

While discussing the highly anticipated sequel, Farrell revealed that production is set to begin very soon. He did say, however, that his role will be rather small compared to that of ‘The Penguin’. According to the actor, he only spent a few weeks filming his scenes.

“I will go fly to London in four or five weeks. I haven’t got much to do on it, but I’ll go for four or five weeks. I’ll be there for a few weeks. I’m so excited to see it as a fan,” he told Collider. That’s a clear indication that even though he was one of the most influential characters in Gotham by the end of his spinoff, he won’t be the main character in the film.
That could be disappointing for some fans in the beginning. But it does make a lot of sense. ‘The Penguin’ has already spent an entire season investigating the origins of the rise of Oz in Gotham’s criminal underworld.
Instead of having to go through that again, ‘The Batman Part II’ can now utilize the character in a more strategic way, while also letting other big storylines take center stage. Even in limited appearances, Farrell’s Penguin has consistently left a lasting impression.
Farrell’s Faith In ‘The Batman’ Follow-Up Is Strong

The best thing about Farrell’s update was actually not the screen time component. The actor again lauded Matt Reeves’ script, saying it was extraordinary and that Reeves was dedicated to storytelling. “The script, I’ve said before, and you know, I said it to you, it’s extraordinary. It really is. Matt is just so brilliant, and he just cares so deeply about the stories he tells.”

This is a strong validation from a guy who’s been around Reeves’ Gotham world for years now. Farrell was also very enthusiastic about coming back to the production, and he confessed that he’s excited to see the movie as both an actor and a fan.
That’s the excitement that many audiences are feeling right now. ‘The Batman Part II’ seems to be finally ready to get moving, after several delays and years of speculation. In fact, while he might not be the star he was on the show, the fact that he’s returning means something.
Reeves’ Gotham is still expanding, and its most dangerous players aren’t leaving. That’s a thrilling prospect for Batman fans. The city’s criminal empire is more powerful than ever, and Penguin’s next act may well have far-reaching implications for Gotham’s future.
