Twenty years have passed since the finale of Friends titled ‘The Last One’ aired, and yet the television series remains a household staple. The iconic sitcom has been nominated for sixty-seven Primetime Emmy Awards out of which it has won six. The NBC series revolves around six friends living in New York City. Fans have binge-watched the episodes of the beloved series repeatedly.

We certainly cannot have our fill of Chandler’s sarcastic jokes or Pheobe’s hip approach to life. But everybody needs a break from time to time. Here are ten television shows to watch if you like ‘Friends’. From Chuck Lorre’s The Big Bang Theory to ABC‘s Modern Family these series will leave you in stitches just like the beloved classic.

10. Modern Family

Another classic series like ‘Friends’, this ABC series involves the drama of a three modern families. ‘Modern Family’ aired in 2009 on television and had a long run of eleven seasons. It deals with the families’ day-to-day hassles that often lead to hilarious fixes. The show comprises a fantastic cast of Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowe, Ty Burrell, and Sarah Hyland among others. ‘Modern Family’ has been the recipient of twenty-two Primetime Emmy Awards.

9. Brooklyn Nine-Nine

The lives of the detectives in the nine-nine precinct in Brooklyn turn upside-down when a robotic gay black captain, Raymond Holt, arrives. Led by the iconic comedian Andy Samberg as Detective Jake Peralta, the squad solves cases and goes up against the orthodox brass norms. The series ended in 2021 with a perfect run of eight seasons. Brooklyn Nine-Nine employs a stellar cast of Andre Braugher, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, and more.

8. The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory revolves around four nerdy but socially awkward friends including Leonard, Sheldon, Howard, and Raj. Leonard and Sheldon are roommates and their lives change when a free-spirited, struggling actress Penny moves to the neighboring flat. The show was very successful and had a long run for twelve seasons. Jim Parsons bagged many awards for his outstanding performance along with others.

After his divorce, Alan Harper moves to his brother, Charlie’s beachfront house along with his son Jake. Charlie’s life turns upside down as his bachelor playboy lifestyle is extremely opposite to his brother’s. The show premiered in September 2003 and ended after a long run of twelve seasons. The show bagged nine Emmy awards along with others.

6. That 70s Show

‘That 70s Show’ focuses on the typical struggles of Eric Foreman and his group of friends and their hilarious approach to their problems. The show was first aired by Fox in 1998 and continued for eight seasons. Some of the cast of the show came to become one of the most popular actors in Hollywood including Mila Kunis. Ashton Kutcher became a regular in the later seasons of another classic series, ‘Two And A Half Men’.

5. How I Met Your Mother

The show features yet another set of friends based in New York City, hellbent on finding the perfect match for the lead character Ted Mosby. As the name suggests, How I Met Your Mother is a nine-season long tale of how Ted met his children’s mother. The series leaves you in stitches as six grown-up reckless adults partake in lively pranks and gimmicks. HIMYM aired in 2005, presenting Josh Radnor, Neil Patrick Harris, Cobbie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, and Jason Segel.

4. Seinfeld

Television history was gifted with this classic comedy series by the stand-up comedian Jerry Seinfeld. The show is the depiction of the tumultuous life of the comedian actor involving three of his friends- Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Cosmo Kramer. These friends take the audience through a dialogic goldmine during the 90s. The NBC show has been the recipient of ten Primetime Emmy Awards.

3. The Good Place

Eleanor is welcomed into the eternal paradise after she meets with a car accident. The biblical Heaven is everything the book promised but the celestial agents have made a mistake by getting Eleanor, a textbook example of a bad person, into heaven after death. Dishonest and rude Eleanor hides the mix-up to avoid leaving ‘The Good Place’. The innovative and rather philosophical plot of this series is one of its biggest attractions. The series aired in 2016 with a cast of Kristen Bell, Ted Danson, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto, and D’Arcy Carden. The show ran for four seasons.

2. 2 Broke Girls

Max Black gets a new roommate when Caroline Channing’s father gets arrested and she ends up on the streets. They work in a Brooklyn diner and dream of opening a cupcake business but always seem to be short of funds. Starring Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs, this series ran for six seasons. The series can leave you in stitches as the two broke girls tackle their way with slim means.

1. Mom

Christy, a newly sober single mom struggles to take care of her family when her estranged mother walks into her life. The show is chiefly about their dysfunctional mom-daughter relationship. Allison Janney won two Emmy awards for the role of supporting actress in the film. Chuck Lorre, along with Eddie Gorodetsky, made eight seasons of the show. It also received critical acclaim for addressing real-life issues.
