Three things in the world are certain, death, taxes, and Ben Affleck‘s exit as Batman in the new DCU. The Boston-based actor’s time playing the caped crusader in DCU was a disaster. It drove him to the bottle. As a result, he had to step away from his solo Batman movie, which he wrote and directed.
We already know it was supposed to be excellent, but more details about this canceled project have emerged. The 50-year-old actor-filmmaker’s take on the iconic vigilante was supposed to be a decade-spanning history of Gotham’s heroes and villains. Thanks to Jay Oliva, the storyboard artist who worked on the project for a while, we have more juicy details about the project that never came to be.

More Details Emerge About Affleck’s Scraped ‘Batman’ Film
During an interview with Inverse, veteran storyboard artist and animation film director Jay Oliva spilled some details about Ben Affleck’s take on the Batman mythology. While still withholding information, he reiterated that the ‘Argo’ filmmaker’s take on the material would have been “f***ing awesome” and “building off of storylines in the Batman mythos over the last 80 years.”
Jay Olivia, brought in to provide visual guidance, told the magazine that ‘Argo’ filmmaker’s version of The Dark Knight story was the best he ever saw, incorporating history in a way no adaptation did. While he was impressed with the Oscar-winning actor-filmmaker’s version, he understood that “Ben had to step away for personal reasons.”

Ben Affleck’s Tenure As Batman In The DC Universe
Following Christian Bale, Ben Affleck was announced as the next actor to take on the mantle by Warner Brothers. The 50-year-old actor debuted as Batman in Zack Snyder’s ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.’ Critics and audiences didn’t appreciate Zach Snyder’s version of a wartorn and jaded Batman.
Regardless, Ben Affleck would go on to play Batman in the ‘Justice League’ movie. Before officially retiring as Batman, he had cameos in other DCU films like ‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘Birds Of Prey.‘ ‘The Flash‘ marked his final outing as Batman.
