Ray Liotta, who won the world with his boyish charm yet mischievous ways, has passed away. He was 67. Liotta was best known for his role in Martin Scorsese’s classic film, “Goodfellas”. Tributes have been pouring in for the late actor from all sections of Hollywood. Among those who mourned his death are Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese and Lorraine Bracco.
Goodbye, Ray Liotta
Ray Liotta’s publicist Jennifer Craig, confirmed his death to The Hollywood Reporter. She said that the actor died in his sleep while he was in the Dominican Republic to shoot for the movie, “Dangerous Waters”.
The film’s producers gave a statement to the publication which said, “We were deeply saddened to learn of Ray’s passing, it’s a tremendous loss and our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, fiancé Jacy and daughter Karsen.”
Liotta’s noted works include Something Wild, Unlawful Entry, Cop Land, Hannibal, Observe and Report, Killing Them Softly and Marriage Story, among others.
Hollywood Celebs Remember Liotta
Martin Scorsese shared a statement after learning about Liotta’s death. “He was so uniquely gifted, so adventurous, so courageous as an actor. Playing Henry Hill in Good Fellas was a tall order, because the character had so many different facets, so many complicated layers, and Ray was in almost every scene of a long, tough shoot. He absolutely amazed me, and I’ll always be proud of the work we did together on that picture. My heart goes out to his loved ones, and it aches for his loss, way too early,” the statement read.
Liotta’s “Goodfellas” co-star Lorraine Bracco wrote she is “utterly shattered” by the news of his death.
Robert De Niro, who starred in “Goodfellas” with the late star, wrote, “I was very saddened to learn of Ray’s passing. He is way too way young to have left us. May he Rest in Peace.”
Jennifer Lopez, who worked with Liotta on NBC cop drama “Shades of Blue” also paid tribute to the legendary actor. She tweeted, “Ray was my partner in crime on Shades of Blue … the first thing that comes to mind is he so was kind to my children. Ray was the epitome of a tough guy who was all mushy on the inside … I guess that’s what made him such a compelling actor to watch. The original Goodfella.”
