Ethan Hawke and his daughter Maya Hawke are set to introduce their combined talent to the screen in the upcoming film ‘Wildcat‘ set for a release on May 3. While the veteran actor Ethan Hawke will be taking the director’s role for the film, his daughter Maya will be the lead character. Meanwhile, another one of her important and heavily anticipated projects is the final season of ‘Stranger Things‘.
While talking about his upcoming film during a recent interview with People, Ethan Hawke’s pride shined through when he opened up about watching Maya’s performance as Robin Buckley in ‘Stranger Things‘. “I can be proud of her and geek out with so much joy when I watch ‘Stranger Things,'” he enthuses.
He also mentioned that Maya is currently busy filming the fifth and final season of the hit Netflix show in Georgia. However, she refuses to give away any spoilers about the final season. “I nudge her for them and she won’t give them up!” he said. “She says, ‘You’ve got a big mouth.’ So nope, not even to dear old dad,” Hawke added with a laugh.

Ethan Hawke Opens Up About Directing His Daughter In Upcoming Film ‘Wildcat’
Other than her work in ‘Stranger Things‘, Ethan Hawke also opened up about their next project together and his experience while director of his own daughter Maya. The story of ‘Wildcat‘ delves into the life of short-story writer Flannery O’Connor played by Maya.
Speaking more about the idea behind it, Ethan Hawke said, “Maya wanted to make a movie about a fiery young woman who’s complicated. The world is full of movies about complicated men and their relationship to their work. She had this idea to make a movie about a young woman’s own relationship to herself and her work“
He also mentioned that even though he has “tremendous respect for her talents,” he had to maintain a professional demeanor on set. “I worried I would fail her if I did that,” Ethan said referring to the possibility of letting their father-daughter relationship come in the way of professionalism.
“We had so many amazing collaborators… They weren’t there for it to be cute or for us to make a home movie,” he said. Fans can watch the film in theatres on May 3.
