‘Demon Slayer’ is yet another popular anime, which is not only a fan favorite for its character and plot but mostly for its visual effects. The character developments in the anime are wonderfully drawn and the plot line slowly drags us to a darker end. The focus of the story is on the protagonist Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko Kamada, and how they destroy the demon Muzan Kibutsuji.
In order to fight against the greater evil, Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer corps which is headed by Kagaya Ubuyashiki also known as Oyakata-sama by the corp leaders. In several instances, hints of Kagaya and Muzan being related are dropped. But the main question remains. How did the head of the demon corps get entangled with the worst demon ever?

‘Demon Slayer’: Kagaya Ubuyashiki And Kibutsuji Muzan
Thousand of years ago when demons didn’t exist, the Ubuyashiki family was a happy family like all others. Muzan was a member of the family, but as a sickly child, he often suffered from seizures. He was predicted to die early because of his weak constitution. During this time, a doctor came forth to help him and started giving him experimental medicines.
With no positive results even after all his efforts, Muzan in a fit killed the doctor. It was realized only after his death, that the medicines did have an effect on him, but it was only temporary. As there was no one who could continue with the medicine, the terrifying side effects barred its fangs at the family members.
Muzan could no longer go out in the sun, and he started having a thirst that could only be quenched with human flesh. He killed thousands of people and became the first demon to ever live. Now fast forwarding to the present era, Muzan is still healthy with only his one weakness, i.e, sunlight.

The Ubuyashiki Clan’s Curse
Kagaya is the 97th clan leader and is a descendant of the Ubuyashiki clan. As the Ubuyashiki first birthed the demon, they were cursed to have a disease that would lead them to their death by the age of 30. No male members of the clan survived longer than that. It was also said that if the female children were married by the age of 13 and changed their surnames, the curse would not affect them.
Ever since then, all the male members of the clan took on the responsibility of killing Muzan. With Muzan’s death, the curse from their family will also vanish. After Gyutaro and his sister Daki’s death, Kagaya stated how unfortunate it was because Muzan is the shame of the Ubuyashiki clan. This was a big hint at their relationship. As the story progresses we’ll find more instances of Muzan’s backstory.
