Perhaps one of the most iconic roles in the long and successful career of Sharon Stone is ‘Basic Instinct.’ As much as it brought fame and success to her, it also made her personal life difficult.

On Monday, in a new interview for Table for Two podcast, the 65-year-old actress said that one of the scenes from the film was used against her during her adopted son’s custody battle.

When the judge asked my child — my tiny little boy, ‘Do you know your mother makes sex movies?’ Like, this kind of abuse by the system — that I was considered what kind of parent I was because I made that movie,” Stone said.

Because of this, the actress “lost custody of my child” as it was granted to Phil Bronstein. She received visitation rights but the entire ordeal took a toll on her mental and physical health.

The 1992 film proved to be a turning point in her career. However, it has been a subject of controversy due to its sexual content and glorification of rape. One scene, involving Stone’s character crossing her legs in front of the cops was the talk of the town.

Paul Verhoeven, the director of the film asked Stone to remove her underpants for the scene and said that “the white reflects the light, so we know you have panties on.” Stone did as she was told.

However, unknown to her, her private part is visible in the scene for a brief moment. The actress insisted that it was shot without her consent but Paul has denied her claims.
