The Creator Of Pinocchio
The tale of the wooden puppet created by a carpenter in Florence has always been a favorite among the kids. Exploring the history of these age-old tales can give you a glimpse into many interesting insights. Researchers now tell that the story was written by Carlo Collodi 130 years ago on July 7, 1881.
It is understood that the tale must have taken place in the Tuscan village of San Miniato Basso, which lies midway between Pisa and Florence. And interestingly, the village had been originally named Pinocchio. It was the Italian juvenile magazine named ‘La Syoria di un Burattino‘ that serialized the story of Geppetto and his pine wood puppet in 1881.
Researchers assume that the writer of the tale had visited the village of Pinocchio and had also met the people there, most likely used to inspire his characters. Some of the research have also shown analogies between Collodi’s tale and the village of San Miniato.

How Does Pinocchio Really End?
In the serialized children’s tale, the story revolves around the animated marionette named Pinocchio and his father, a poor woodcarver named Geppetto. The story was supposed to have a very gruesome ending. The writer Collodi wanted to convey the message that disobedient children would face grave consequences. Thus the tale was to end in such a manner that the people who had told Pinocchio about planting gold coins would hang and kill him.
But since the newspaper editors were not happy about such an ending, Collodi had to change it. The writer added new chapters and bought a blue fairy who comes to save the puppet. Finally, he learns his lesson and decides to be a good boy, living happily with his father. With the Disney versions, the endings became happier and more acceptable.
