Given the ongoing Hollywood strikes, no new shows have been released or are being made. ‘Strike Force Five’ is one podcast that was started to help the strikers monetarily. The top five who’s who of talk shows are behind the hit podcast. But now, actress Drew Barrymore has announced the return of her hit talk show without any writers.
The ’50 First Dates’ star took to Instagram to announce the return of her show amidst the strike, which attracted the wrath of fans a less-than-favorable statement from the Writers Guild of America. Let’s take a look!

‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ Is Set To Return Soon Amid Heavy Criticism
After the last season of the talk show, it has stayed off-air for quite some time. But now, the actress announced that her talk show will be making a comeback sooner than you think.
Drew Barrymore took to Instagram to reveal in a lengthy post that her daytime chat show will begin its fourth season shortly. It will be in compliance with the conditions of the Writers Guild of America and the SAG-AFTRA strike. Barrymore plans on making a comeback on September 18 with season 4 of ‘The Drew Barrymore Show‘.
However, her decision is facing a lot of backlash online. The WGA has announced that they will continue to picket shows in production during the strike and that includes ‘The Drew Barrymore Show‘. “The Guild has, and will continue to, picket struck shows that are in production during the strike. Any writing on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ is in violation of WGA strike rules,” a spokesperson from WGA said.
Comedian and writer Adam Conover wrote on X, “This is incredibly disappointing. [Her] show employs WGA writers who are currently on strike. She is choosing to go back on the air without them, and forcing her guests to cross a picket line”. He even addressed her on saying, “Drew: This harms your writers and all union workers. Please reconsider.”
Screenwriter Avishai Weinberger tweeted, “I understand why Drew Barrymore is doing this. 100 per cent. Her show employs people, and those people are suffering. I sympathise. Yes, And. We can’t allow exceptions. If there’s one, there’ll be more. We haven’t fought this long, suffered this much, to let the wall crack.”
It is not too late for @DrewBarrymore to stop this and do the right thing.

If her concern is paying the crew, it seems like someone who was born rich and has starred in hit movies since childhood might be able to find a better solution than working with scab writers. #WGAStrong https://t.co/nx95D1UBvJ
The worst part is that Drew and her production company claim that they're following WGA strike rules. They are not; they are violating them, by producing a WGA-covered, written show during a strike without WGA writers. https://t.co/PX7AOo8wkm

This actually surprises me. She has seemed to be sincerely compassionate and thoughtful. What a strange, clearly destructive, unkind decision.

Drew Barrymore Says The Show Is Bigger Than Her
In her Instagram post, the ‘Blended’ actress said that she is making another conscious choice now to return to work amid both the writers and actors strikes because the show is “bigger than just me.”
“I own this choice,” Barrymore continued. “We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind. We launched live in a global pandemic. Our show was built for sensitive times and has only functioned through what the real world is going through in real time.”
She also talked about providing writers with the opportunity to do what they are best at in her lengthy post. And that providing job opportunities amidst the WGA strike is what motivated her to make a comeback.
