Emma Stone Slapped Willem Dafoe 20 Times
Emma Stone will be returning to the screen after her 2021 release ‘Cruella.’ She has teamed up with veteran actor Willem Dafoe for a film called ‘And.’ An interesting anecdote about its filming has surfaced.
In a Dafoe profile by The New York Times, the film’s director Yorgos Lanthimos that Stone slapped Dafoe 20 times for a particular scene. In it, his character doesn’t even appear on camera.
“That’s what you want from actors,” Lanthimos said. “To want to be part of it in any way.” Stone added, “There’s this instinct to perform that many actors have — the ‘look at me, look at me!’ kind of performer. He’s the opposite of that.”
She said that such changes happen over the years in actors. “A lot of actors I bond with have been doing this for a long time, and you know they’ve gone from ‘I’ to ‘We“, she said.

Stone’s Upcoming Projects
In the past, Stone has collaborated with Yorgos on the 2018 period black comedy flick ‘The Favorite’. It had earned her an Oscar nom in the Supporting Actress category.
Apart from ‘And‘ (about which very little is known), the duo is also working on a film called ‘Poor Things.’ In the film, which is inspired by the tale of Frankenstein, Stone plays the role of a woman whose brain is replaced by that of her child who is unborn. The film is likely to release before ‘And.’
Both these movies are backed by Searchlight Pictures, which was also behind ‘The Favourite‘. It would be interesting to see Stone back on screen after more than two years.
