According to Variety, the ‘Jaws‘ director attended at the recently held Oscar nominees’ luncheon where he praised Tom Cruise for saving Hollywood. “You saved Hollywood’s a*s and you might have saved theatrical distribution,” he said to Cruise at the event.
He further said, “Seriously, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ might have saved the entire theatrical industry.” Hearing these words from Speilberg left Cruise blushing. The video was shared by director Kartiki Gonsalves.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Stormed The Box-Office
A sequel to the 1986 film ‘Top Gun‘, the 2022 film was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It met with universal acclaim upon release, with particular praise for the performances and practical stunts.
The film minted $1.489 billion globally, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 2022. It also went on to become the highest-grosser ever in Cruise’s career. It is credited for bringing back the audiences to the theatre who were apprehensive about it due to the pandemic.
‘Maverick‘ has appeared in the list of best films of 2022 by several outlets, including the American Film Institute. It has also been nominated for six awards at the 95th Academy Awards. One of the categories is Best Picture.
