    Sometime after the death of his son Paul and wife Maggie Murdaugh, Alex Murdaugh was found injured in a roadside accident. At first, it looked like an attempt on his life was made. However, the investigation revealed that Alex Murdaugh had hired someone to kill him. Alex planned to hire his cousin to kill him so his son Buster could collect a hefty insurance policy.

    Soon, a shocking number of allegations piled up against the once-respected lawyer. He had committed various degrees of financial crimes, a staggering number of 71 charges involving the theft of about $8.5 million. He was soon indicted for the murders of his family members as well.

    By the end of 2022, Alex Murdaugh had acquired quite the rap sheet. He now faced over 100 charges of financial crimes, including fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, and forgery. Among many other horrible breaches of law, Alex Murdaugh never the restitution he won to the client who needed it. In addition, he was also charged with two counts of murder.

    The prosecution team believes that Alex Murdaugh had dug himself into a big hole with misappropriation and stealing money. He needs people to look away from his greasy crime, a distraction that would make people forget about the stolen money. Alex killed his son and his wife to distract people from his money laundering. He also hoped it would get him the jury’s sympathy.

    In the trial that began on January 23, 2023, the disgraced lawyer was convicted of both counts of murder. Alex Murdaugh faces up to 30 years to life in prison with no options for parole.
