Marvel fans might have just gotten an unexpected clue about ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and it didn’t come from an official announcement.
Rather, they got it during a rather cringeworthy interview exchange between Andy Serkis and Iman Vellani.
Andy Serkis May Have Teased A Key Doomsday Return

A friendly and enthusiastic interview quickly turned into a “did that just happen?” moment. Vellani was thanking Serkis for reprising his role as Gollum in ‘The Hunt for Gollum’, showing enthusiasm for his work in Middle-earth. However, then Serkis mentioned she was in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ (which Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed).

“If there should ever be the chance to see you in a film like Doomsday,” Serkis said, with Vellani adding, “If there is a chance, like Doomsday, but Gollum’s happening for sure.” Almost immediately, both actors knew what they had said. They became defensive, slightly forced with their chuckles, and attempted to downplay the moment.
If you’ve been to a Marvel press tour, you’ve seen this before: a possible spoiler is uttered, and then quickly deflected with a joke. However, these moments are often noticed. Marvel is known for its secrecy, and even the smallest leak can lead to wild speculation. If Serkis did in fact slip, it’s a good bet that Kamala Khan (aka Ms. Marvel) will be involved in the next crossover.
Ms. Marvel’s Return Feels Like A Natural Fit

Even if Serkis hadn’t let the cat out of the bag, Vellani’s return wouldn’t be a surprise. Ever since her introduction in Ms. Marvel and cameo in ‘The Marvels’, Kamala Khan has been an important part of the MCU’s future. She brings a fresh, relatable voice to the table, which is becoming increasingly necessary as the MCU grows.

As Robert Downey Jr. takes on the mantle of Doctor Doom for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, it’s clear the stakes are high. Combining old-school threats with new heroes (like Ms. Marvel) is a combination that echoes the success of earlier ensemble films. It also helps bring together old and new fans.
Kamala’s relatable humanity lends emotional appeal, while also fitting into the cosmic and multiversal themes Marvel is now tackling. Of course, until Marvel Studios confirms it, this is all speculation. But if fans have learned anything from previous “oops” moments, it’s that they are often true. However, if Ms. Marvel is in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, this interview moment might be one of the funniest teasers in the MCU.
