When Anthony Mackie took on the mantle of Captain America it was a defining moment for his character, Sam Wilson. With ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ getting closer to its release date, fans cannot wait to see the actors’ suits.
However, there was one thing Mackie absolutely could not stand, the suit. While fans embraced the patriotic design, Mackie had a very different experience behind the scenes.
Anthony Mackie Hated The Iconic Cowl In His Captain America Suit
In a recent interview with IGN, the Captain America actor revealed that his first suit was nothing short of a disaster for him. “I told them that I was never wearing that shit again, dude,” he admitted. “That was hard. With the heat, the sweat, the fogged-up glasses, it was impossible. It was called a cowl. It was my worst nightmare. You can’t do anything.”
Mackie’s suit, in particular, included a white half-helmet and goggles that constantly fogged up, making it incredibly difficult for him to perform. While the suit looked stunning on-screen, it’s pretty clear that the actor did not have a good time with it.
The good news? Marvel listened. In ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, Mackie gets an updated suit (one that ditches the half-helmet while keeping his signature goggles). Director Julius Onah also confirmed that the film will not be another exploration of whether Sam Wilson deserves to be Captain America. “That question has been resolved,” Onah stated. “Sam is our Captain America now. He’s our hero.”
Did Anthony Mackie Just Drop A Huge ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Spoiler?
While promoting ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, Mackie might have accidentally let slip a major clue about the highly anticipated ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ When asked what he was most excited about for the next Avengers movie, Mackie’s response was clear.

“I think for me, I’m really excited about the idea of old meeting new. The OG original cast members of the MCU and all the new people coming together to form this massive conglomerate...” he stated. That might sound harmless. However, his co-star Danny Ramirez quickly interrupted him, seemingly worried Mackie was revealing too much.
Was he just speculating, or did he confirm long-standing rumors that the movie will bring back classic characters from the MCU’s past? There have been ongoing whispers that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will feature Multiversal versions of the original six Avengers. Some reports even claim that Doctor Doom could be wearing Tony Stark’s face and that Chris Evans might return as his Hydra counterpart.
While Evans has repeatedly denied these rumors, Mackie’s comment certainly adds fuel to the fire. Even if Mackie truly lets something slip, Marvel will more than likely not confirm anything. However, it is safe to say that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is shaping up to be an epic crossover.
